School Projects

These projects vary greatly in media, ranging from blown glass, to mosaic, to paper.  All pieces were created to fulfill a class assignment at either the New Orleans School of Glassworks and Printmaking or at Loyola University of New Orleans.

This was an assignment given to Katherine in her Freshman year of college. She had to carve something out of a block of styrofoam. This fish is in fact made entirely of styrofoam with a layer of mosaic glass and acrylic paint to enhance the background. 2008.

"Wall Lamp." From freshman year. It is a working lamp that was made completely from scraps. All sewing and metal work was designed by Katherine. 2008.

"Bienvenu Hostel." This was an architectural project that Katherine did with two other girls from Loyola. They had to create a building and place it in a culture. They chose to place a hostel in downtown New Orleans, since it seems that New Orleans does not have a decent one. The model is made mostly out of paper and paint. 2008.

"Panel Study." This was a final project from her first semester at Loyola that Katherine had to do. She had to choose three objects, then draw a two inch by two inch square area of each object. After that, these drawings had to be translated thirty times into different media and styles. 2007.

Although this actually wasn't done for school, it was done during school for a local contest. Contestants were to decorate a cowboy hat for Tim McGraw using the theme of the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Paper, acrylic paint, and glitter pens. 2008.
